Mike Stevens
Director and Overall Show Design

Mike co-founded and has been the Director of OCI since 2009. He was a member of the Spartans (Vancouver, WA.), Blue Devils, and Cadets, served on the Cadets Percussion Staff, and was Caption Head of the Blue Knights from 1998-2000. He is a Signature Artist with Promark Drumsticks, holds a Bachelor of Music Theory/Composition from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette, and has been taught by and worked with some of the most influential percussion educators in the world including Adam Mason, Jeff Prosperie, Tom Float, Scott Johnson, Ralph Hardimon, and Tom Aungst. Mike is currently the Percussion Director and Composer for the Tigard High School and Southridge High School Bands in the Portland area, and is also the Percussion Caption Head and arranger for the Oregon Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps.


Gail Francis
Assistant Director

Gail is a native of the Pacific Northwest, and was brought up in the Sunset High School Band Program. She was a member of OC Indoor's Front Ensemble in 2011, 2012, aged out in in 2014, and has been invested in developing the regions young percussionists at several of the local High School Programs.

She received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Oregon in 2013, and is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy at Lewis & Clark College, graduating in 2016. Gail joined the administration team in 2015 and has made a huge impact on the organization in a very short time.


Dr. Christopher Whyte
Front Ensemble and Overall Show Design

Chris is Assistant Professor of Music at Western Oregon University where he oversees the Percussion Department. He performs regularly with the Oregon Symphony, Portland Opera Orchestra, Oregon Ballet Theater, Third Angle New Music, and Portland Symphonic Choir among others. He is Artistic Director of the Portland Percussion Group, a contemporary percussion quartet based in Portland, Oregon. Chris earned his Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University under the tutelage of BSO Principal Timpanist Timothy Genis. Chris was a marching member of the Cascades, Bluecoats, Blue Devils, and is also the Front Ensemble Arranger for the Drum and Bugle Corps.


Micah Brusse
Battery Arranger and Overall Show Design

Micah Brusse is the Director of Marching Percussion for the University of Oregon Marching Band and Evergreen HS in Vancouver, WA. Brusse performed with the Blue Devils in 1995 and 1997, and has served as the snare technician for the Blue Knights and the Blue Devils. He has served as both a teacher and consultant for the Oregon Crusaders since 2010, and has been the Battery Coordinator at OC Indoor since 2009, taking over writing duties in 2014.


Ian Flint
Visual and Overall Show Design

Ian lives in Fletcher, VT, where he teaches music at Bellows Free Academy. Ian worked for Dartmouth Public Schools as a band director and district wide brass specialist, teaching 5th-12th grade group lessons and various ensembles across the district.  He also serves as a show designer and visual coordinator for the marching band and indoor percussion ensembles. In the past 9 years, the marching band won 5 USSBA National Championships and the indoor percussion has won 3 WGI World Class Championships. This will be Ian’s 3rd year with Oregon Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps, assuming the role of Visual Designer for the 2016 season. Ian has been on staff and designing the Visual Package for OC Indoor since 2014.


Evan Brown
Sound Designer

We are thrilled to bring Evan on board as our Sound Designer for 2016. Evan is also returning for his second year as Sound Designer for the Oregon Crusaders. In addition to OC, Evan is currently a sound designer for Matrix Percussion (World & Open), Phantom Regiment, Dartmouth HS (MA), Kiski Area HS (PA), amongst others across the US.

He also is currently the Percussion Coordinator for North Allegheny HS in Wexford, PA. He holds a B.A. in Music from Slippery Rock University, where he performed and participated in a wide variety of ensembles, focusing most specifically on drumset.


Luke DeDominces
Front Ensemble Instructor

Currently residing in Portland, Oregon, Luke DeDominces is a percussion instructor at both Southridge and Glencoe High School, teaching marching and concert percussion. Luke recently aged out of drum corps with the Phantom Regiment in 2013, and this will be his third year on staff with both the Oregon Crusaders and OC Indoor Front Ensembles.

Luke received his Bachelor’s degree in percussion performance in 2014 from Pacific Lutheran University under the instruction of Miho Takekawa. He now plays with several local ensembles including the Portland Wind Symphony as the percussion section leader, as well as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.


Eric Yahrmarkt
Front Ensemble and Battery Instructor

Eric’s involvement with percussion groups in the Northwest spans the last 18 years. He holds a Bachelors degree in Music from Washington State University, where he studied under professor David Jarvis. From 2000 to 2002 Eric marched with the Seattle Cascades Drum Corps, earning a finalist berth in 2002. Eric is the Percussion Caption head for Sunset High School and Liberty High School.

Currently in his 7th year on staff with Oregon Crusaders Indoor, he has also served on staff for the Oregon Crusaders (2006,2009-2012) and Seattle Cascades (2007). He lives in Portland, OR with his wife Andrea.


Kaela Shoe
Front Ensemble Intructor

Hailing from Washington State, Kaela is a veteran of both the Oregon Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps and OC Indoor Front Ensembles. In addition to teaching private lessons, she serves as the marching band consultant and percussion instructor at Enumclaw High School in Northern Washington.

Kaela earned her Bachelors Degree in Percussion Performance from Pacific Lutheran University while studying under Dr. Miho Takekawa. She looks forward to being a part of the Oregon Crusaders instructional team


Joshua Madrid
Cymbal Caption Manager

Originally from Colorado, Josh got his start in the winter activity playing quads at Northglenn High School. He went on to perform with the Blue Knights and Music City Mystique. 

Josh has been a staple of the NW percussion scene since 2003, having taught at the Oregon Crusaders, Sunset, Centennial, Westview, and Southridge High Schools. He is currently a judge for the NWAPA and the Kymbos Scholarship.

Josh lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife Chelsae and their super rad daughter, Clover (the official baby of OCI), and is also working towards his degree in Elementary Education.


Dave Loughin
Cymbal and Visual Instructor

Dave has been a part of the Oregon Crusaders organization since his rookie season in 2007. He marched a total of three years, switching from tuba to baritone to bass drum in his time with the corps.

In the winter seasons he marched with OC Indoor as a cymbal player and xylophone player. He is currently a cymbal instructor for OC Indoor, a visual instructor at Tigard High School, and the Visual Caption Head at Evergreen High School in Vancouver Washington.

Outside of the pageantry arts, Dave served 4 years with the United States Marine Corps and is an experienced martial arts teacher.


Anna Spangler
Cymbal and Visual Instructor

Anna is a third year staff member, and is a founding member of the ensemble having marched from 2009-2013. She was a hornline member of both the Oregon Crusaders and Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps, and is currently a staff member of the Cascades from Seattle WA. She is a graduate of Sunset HS, and is now back at her alma mater working with the Band Program as the Visual Caption Head.

Tarrin Neal
Bass Drum Instructor

We are very excited to bring on 2015 age out Tarrin Neal as a bass drum instructor. He has an extensive history with the organization, marching with the Drum and Bugle Corps from 2011-2013, and Oregon Crusaders Indoor from 2009-2015. Tarrin is continuing into his third year teaching the bass line for the Oregon Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps, and also works with Southridge High school in Beaverton, Oregon. He is looking forward to continuing the tradition of OC/OCI bass excellence and taking it to new levels in 2015 and beyond.


Liana Bernard
Bass Drum and Visual Instructor

2015 age out Liana Bernard is a “supervet” of the OC family, having marched the Drum and Bugle Corps from 2010-2014 and OC Indoor from 2010-2015. She was also a member of the University of Oregon Bass Drum Line. Liana has worked with Sheldon, Tigard, Southridge, and Evergreen High Schools. Liana is also a second year staff member of the Oregon Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps, and is currently working towards her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Portland State University.


Nate Wright
Quad Instructor

Nate is back on board for his second season with OCI. He has an extensive pageantry and music background, having been a member of the Cadets "QB", a staff member of the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Minnesota Brass Indoor Percussion. Since relocating to the NW, Nate has immersed himself into the heart of both the pageantry and live music scene, becoming the Caption Head and Arranger at Glencoe HS, and performing with local group Hound the Wolves. As an artist, he has recorded and toured with many musicians in the southwest, west coast, and Pacific Northwest. Nate keeps up an extensive private lesson studio, and was recently married to his incredible partner Zoe.


Josiah Nelson
Snare Instructor

Josiah Nelson is a 2015 age out, and is excited to be returning as a snare technician. He marched with the Oregon Crusaders in 2013, OC Indoor from 2013-2015, as well as Blue Stars in 2012 and Cascades 2009-2011. He will be working with the Drum and Bugle Corps along with Skyview High School and Evergreen High School for both their fall and winter percussion programs.


Nate Potter
Quad Instructor

Local Quad Guru Nate Potter will join us in 2015 as one of our amazing Quad Instructors. Nate spent 5 years with the Oregon Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps as a member between 2010 and 2014 and is excited to return as a staff member. In addition to his time with the corps, he also spent three seasons performing with Oregon Crusaders Indoor (2010, 2011, 2013) as well as four years as a member of the University of Oregon marching band. Nate recently received his Bachelors Degree in Computer Science from the University of Oregon, with minors in Math and Business.


Masen Bowers
Visual Caption Supervisor

Hailing from Beaverton, OR, Masen Bowers is a visual instructor across the Pacific Northwest. Masen performed with the Oregon Crusaders from 2007-2011, and OC Indoor Drumline in the winter of 2010. Masen has been teaching performing arts from 2010-present, first at West Salem where he ascended to the role of Visual Caption Head in 2012. Currently, he is the visual caption at Southridge High School. This will be Masen’s 4th year on the visual staff at Crusaders, and this upcoming winter he will be serving on the staff of OC Indoor Drumline for the first time.


Travis Opocensky
Design Consultant and Foreign Ambassador to China

Travis was a Quad Line member of OCI from 2010-2013, as well as Rhythm X, Cascades, Madison Scouts, and the Cadets. He is a graduate of Aloha HS, and has taught many of the areas band programs. He was also a staff member of the Cascades, Oregon Crusaders, and Colts.

Travis recently graduated from Portland State University with a Psychology Degree, and is currently living in China spreading his love of the marching arts throughout the world.


Peter Bretz
Design and Administrative Consultant

Pete is a native of Oregon, and was a member of the Grants Pass HS Marching Band. He was also a member of the University of Oregon Drumline, Bluecoats, and both the Blue Knights Drum Corps (where he was taught by Mike Stevens and Micah Brusse) and Indoor Ensembles. Peter served as a staff member and Director for the perrenial finalist BKPE for a number of years, and we are very fortunate to have his expertise, veteran guidance, and wide range of skills on board.


Wesley Yurovchak
Drum Set Specialist and Administrative Team

OCI's first drumset player Wes Yurovchak returns as our Drum Set Specialist and member of the 2016 Administrative Team. Wes played kit in 2010 and 2011 for "Time Control" and "The Red Shoes" productions. He was a member of the Sunset HS Band and Winter Percussion, where he is currently back on staff. Wes studied at Linfield College and Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he received his degree in Music Business and Management. Wes founded his own Artist Management and Production company, WXY Entertainment in 2014, specializing in promotional videos, music videos, Kickstarter videos, interviews, weddings, and live events. Wes is an active musician in the Portland area, looking to collaborate and perform with artists around the world.


Matt Rogers
Administrative Team

After exploring several regions around the world, Matt has re-found his physical home in Portland, his administrative home at OC Indoor, and his front ensemble teaching homes at Skyview and Liberty High Schools. Matt graduated from Chapman University in 2014 with degrees in film production and political science, both of which he has combined into a new passion of documentary filmmaking. But music has been with him for over 18 years. Some of Matt's highest points include playing auxiliary percussion for the 2009 Oregon Crusaders and xylo/glock/crotales for OC Indoor's "Sledgehammer".


Lisa Heck
Treasurer, OCI Show of Hands Coordinator

Lisa is the dedicated mother of OC and OCI snare vet Nick Heck, and has graciously donated her time as a board member and treasurer for the organization for the last three years.


Allison Dale Supnick
Fundraising Coordinator

Allison was a member of both the Oregon Crusaders and Cascades Front Ensemble, graduated from Sunset High School, and has taught percussion at many of the areas band programs. She currently resides in Aloha, Oregon with her husband and local Bass Drum Guru Jon Supnick, who was also a member of the Oregon Crusaders.
